Top BitTorrent Search Engines ![]() Are you wondering why is 50CENT shining @ KO's homepage? I was trying some new means to attract readers to KO's weekly Product Review, thought I'd take help from one of the west-side celebrity, its free after all. The computer buffs should know the significance of the logo alongside the groovy rapper, yes its BitTorrent. I remember sitting in front of my desktop with a P2P app opened, waiting for some user to share the file, that I've trying to download for two days. Then came Torrents. I realized that the torrents' DBase was growing faster than my transition from a teen to an adult. By the time I could read and understand how "torrent network" works, almost everyone had Torrent clients installed on their PCs, without knowing what it does or how it works. I assume you are tech-savvy or else you wouldn't have joined KO. Just incase you are newfangled about Torrents and how it works, these links should help you [Read #1, Read #2]. This week KO'll help you on deciding some of the best BitTorrent client search engines on the web: 1. BTJunkie: ![]() This site has the largest torrent repository in the web. The reasons behind this[¹]: - Indexes both private and public trackers. - A completely automated crawler that scours the Internet. - Free public torrent submission. - Torrent Mail, for immediate notification of new torrent additions. - Torrent reporting and comments. Like they say "a picture speaks louder than words", here's a screenshot of number of seeds: ![]() (Seeders: 82,415. Leechers: 48,330.) Scam torrents are slayed from the lead index. Plus the million user-database will post comments once they sniff the arrival of a new torrent. You can get almost everything under the sky, speed's quite good and you'll always find ample number of seeds. 2. Mininova: ![]() If there's a question "whats next after BTJunkie?", it has to be Supernova's successor, Mininova. I have been using Mininova since a year. You will not find all the torrents, probably half of what you see at BTJunkie, but what fancies me is the speed and reliability of torrents. You might not find all the best seeds in the world, but it surely does your job with an average speed of 100kbps. The site interface is kept simple hence novice users can settle with the layout very quickly. I'd recommend you to start with this website, if you are new to the torrent world. 3. Piratebay: ![]() As the name suggests, they have no regard for copyright. You'd find most of the cracked apps at this famous buccaneer's website. They are famous for ignoring the legal actions carried out by the Internet authorities of different nations. Their humorous response from Sweden made them famous on the web, which pulled a very huge fan following. Thus adding to their user-database. The website has gone through lots of ups and downs, even hacked by some unknown hackers. They stole crucial information of the members. If you're looking to search for something 'outside the law' then you know the place, I assume. But beware, you will be subjected towards further prosecution if you are found guilty. You might want to read this before you try anything funny at Piratebay. 4. Demonoid: ![]() One of the most famous torrent spot on the web, indexing the torrents uploaded by their members. They have a very huge "loyal" member database. Torrents older than a few days are made available for members only. Registering to Demonoid is like waiting to see "Swan River Daisy". New registrations are closed temporarily due to less space in their servers (I guess). Each member is allotted a quota, using which they can invite their acquaintances to Demonoid. They do allow new registration for a day or even hours, without prior notice. They follow a user-tracking system and rate the users who seeds more. Low-rated users aren't penalized, but its done to ensure everyone shares since information is free for all. The search DBase is pretty vast and you can end your find here. Most of the torrents are verified by the authorized personnel before hosting. The ones marked "external" might contain adware, so be careful. Search Prowess: We thought of testing the efficiency of the indexing and the value of the torrents uploaded. Search Query: AVG Anti Spyware BTJunkie: ![]() Results: 90 Max Seeds: 466 Max Leechers: 59 Mininova: ![]() Results: 65 Max Seeds: 28 Max Leechers: 7 Piratebay: [no results] Results: 0 Max Seeds: 0 Max Leechers: 0 Demonoid: ![]() Results: 14 Max Seeds: 5162 Max Leechers: 371 You may use this thread to drop your views on torrents, indexing engines, and your favorite torrent tracking place on the web. One of the best KO PR ever.. Very well-done KUBU!!! *thumbs up*
![]() BTJunkie is increasingly famous and cool too.. Alot of tech-savvy refers it too alot.. Well, i use, uTorrent according to CNet: uTorrent is a powerful and efficient BitTorrent client for Windows. Most of the features present in other BitTorrent clients are present in uTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading, and Mainline DHT. Additionally, uTorrent supports the protocol encryption joint specification and peer exchange. Unlike many torrent clients, it does not hog valuable system resources--typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren't there at all. Well, based on my experiences, though this can slow down the system if there isn't enough memory and RAM. This torrent client is very convenient and fast.. And competitively easy to use... You may download it from here

well, i believe its more to do with the peer to seed ratio, than the number of seeds only. In fact i did read it somewhere that peer:seed ratio is an important aspect to get good speeds.

@sahara
this is a really good article to getting the best speeds. FTA: "Check seeds and peers A simple tip, but very important. Always look for torrents with the best seed/peer ratio. The more seeds (compared to peers) the better (in general). So 50 seeds and 50 peers is better than 500 seeds and 1000 peers. So, be selective."

Talkin' about the link that you've given, its pretty good tip. Unfortunately, the "tweak" they are advising to download turned out to be a malware and my AV deleted it, so I wonder how far that person's clear about "tweaking" the TorrentClient. I use uTorrent with default settings, get an average download rate of 120kbps. The port that you use to download is very critical though. |
