KnowledgeOman.com Participates in the SLA-AGC 17th Annual Conference 2011

KnowledgeOman.com, the leading knowledge-based community initiative in the country, has recently participated in the Annual SLA-AGC 17th Conference 2011 (Special Libraries Association – Arabian Gulf Chapter). The conference brought together various professionals from the knowledge management industry, with a team fromKnowlegdeOman.com led by Abdullah Al Harthy, the KO Administrator. Over a three day period in Al Bustan Palace hotel, KnowledgeOman.com engaged on topics of knowledge exchange, ICT in knowledge dissemination, and the role of volunteers to support in moving forward the wheel of a knowledge society.

Abdullah Al Harthy, administrator at KnowledgeOman.com, said, “We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute and be part of this leading conference. As the only organization participating that represented volunteers working for the country’s knowledge society, the presence of KnowledgeOman.com attracted great interest from various professionals keen to take part.” Our participation highlighted the role of knowledge exchange and dissemination via the internet and on the ground in the community, with examples of our various initiatives. This promoted the significance of a knowledge society and collaboration among different sectors.”

The three day conference noted the role of Information technologies in facilitating the acquisition, access, and deployment of knowledge as well as sharing it with others. This is in light on how everyone may contribute as a knowledge worker, not limited to information professionals only. The themes of the conference included Information Professionals as a workforce in the knowledge economy, Information profession as a bridge to social and economic society, Information as a strategic economic resource, and Knowledge as an intellectual capital.

Saleh Al Zeheimi, from the organizing committee of the SLA-AGC conference, added, “As KnowledgeOman.com is keen to take part in local and international conferences and events, the participation in this conference with an attendance of over 550 from around the world were introduced to the success and knowledge mission of KnowledgeOman.com. The SQU President, presiding the opening ceremony, was further introduced to the achievements of KnowledgeOman.com locally and internationally.”

KnowledgeOman.com’s participation in the conference is part of its initiatives to spread awareness about the vision of a Knowledge Society and attract participation from various backgrounds and experiences to contribute in this critical role. Since establishment in April 2008, KnowledgeOman.com has attracted a volunteer team of over 66 professionals and more than 9,000 members committed to the mission.
