KO understands that knowledge is the ultimate tool in the drive for greater national competitiveness, moreover an opportunity to strengthen Oman’s economic foundation.
 
Since its conception in 2008, founded by Tariq Hilal Al Barwani, the organisation has done its utmost to invest in both citizens and residents alike. By connecting local communities and facilitating the transfer of knowledge, KO inspires change that measurably impacts life in Oman at the socioeconomic level.

President's Message
It has been an honor and a privilege to be nominated as the President of the Knowledge Oman (KO). I am humbled and truly grateful to the board at KO for nominating me and providing this opportunity to serve.

KO a nonprofit organization based in the Sultanate of Oman, founded 9 years back in 2008, by Tariq Al Barwani, a well know and leading personality in the field of Information Technology who is now being recognized globally. The main objective and mission that KO was set up, was, to solidify the vision of the country's ruler, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, to transform Oman into a knowledge-based society.

KO through its knowledge dissemination initiatives advocates innovation and partnership models of development to enable and hasten diverse economic development and lessen its dependency on the oil & gas sector. KO’s current initiatives would facilitate capacity-building and knowledge transfer within the Sultanate thus leading to Knowledge retention which is a key ingredient for the creation of a sustainable innovation eco-system. KO had played a key role in social innovation and believes that nurturing a sustainable and knowledge based society would certainly result in well-diversified and all round economic development leading to a significant increase in happiness index of the nation.

Having conducted in the past initiatives such as Social Enterprise Accelerator; Knowledge Ambassadors and We Community, the new leadership has planned to take these initiatives to the next level and provide a visible impact in community development that are implementable and measurable. With newly nominated Leadership team, we are engaged in the development of strategic projects in the areas of

  • Sustainable Livelihood through SME development
  • Vocational Training,
  • Employment opportunities for High School pass outs,
  • Environmental Improvement Programs and
  • Academia-Industry partnerships enabling “Job-readiness” of new graduates

  • Our priorities are also to strengthen the KO membership with a diverse group of Academicians, Industry Leaders, Professionals and Students that would serve our community. To this end, I would urge you to become involved with Knowledge Oman and spread the word to others encouraging them to join and serve KO.

    From creating computer programs that impacted thousands of users in Oman, partnering with public and government institutions that launched unique TV, Radio and Events programs for the mass public, creating and selling a rich internet portal website to an international group of companies, working within new functions of organizations, accepting invitations and sharing knowledge as a prolific speaker in various schools, colleges and universities,creating a leading volunteer knowledge sharing platform of local and expat residents that work together solely to fill knowledge gap within the country, to winning various local and international awards - Tariq Hilal Al-Barwani, best known for being Oman's popular IT expert is an innovator who focuses on using information technology to make a difference to the society. His unique projects and various experience that led to local and international awards is a proof in the pudding of the value Tariq has created over the years.

    Khalfan Al Mahrazy is currently a manager in Ooredoo Oman and has over 12 years’ experience in telecommunication industry with diverse expertise on people management, project management, workforce management, community initiatives and so forth, which allow him to blend both technology and management in one plate. Khalfan has been in KnowledgeOman since the launch of the platform in 2008 and has played a significant role in building up the platform. Khalfan was also the first Vice President of KnowledgeOman. Khalfan is IVLP Alumni for the U.S Department of State. Khalfan has a Diploma in Information Technology specialized in networking, a member of Institute of Leadership and Management, and has Masters in Business Administration and Management from the University of Liverpool.

    Baby Sam Samuel is an Entrepreneur, Management Consultant, and Business Mentor with 15+ years of cross-cultural experience, with core expertise in brand recognition, business development, and turnaround & crisis management. He is the Senior Vice President of Knowledge Oman and also heads the Coaching & Mentoring Unit – a division of KO that, through partnerships with renowned organisations like Riyada and C3, aims to create and develop social entrepreneurs within the nation. He is presently donning multiple hats, being the General Manager & Business Designer for the IT Company Intertech LLC as well as Organization mentor for the design house Adventz, Muscat. In a consultative capacity, he plays the role of a Brand advisor & business mentor for few other start-up initiatives in Oman as well. He is the Director of Indian Schools in Oman, the Director In-charge of Center for Special Education and is also a visiting Management Lecturer, Keynote speaker, Panel discussions moderator etc.

    Sajan has over 27 years of experience in conceptualising, designing and executing learning and development strategies aimed at delivering customer-focused sales and service initiatives. His expertise is predominantly in the area of sales, customer service, soft skills and leadership training. He has worked in diverse work settings including defence, telecom, insurance and banking. He presently heads the Oman and Bahrain Operations of XpertLearning – a multi-national Talent Management consultancy based out of Dubai -where he helps client organisations define, operate and optimise their Talent Management strategies. He has presented his views on a range of topics including eLearning, leadership and social entrepreneurship at conferences and interviews within and out of Oman. Sajan also is one of the key Ambassadors of Toastmasters International, bringing the new educational program, called Pathways, to Oman. He is a certified Marshall Goldsmith Leadership Coach (MSSCC), Global Leader of the Future Assessor (GLOF) and has a certification in Social Entrepreneurship from Copenhagen Business School. Further, he has a master’s in Personnel Management & Human Resource Development as well as a BA in Public Administration. His vision is to create workplaces vibrant with meaning, creativity, and harmony and aims at inspiring passion for learning by delighting people with the joys of new perspectives.

    Balqees Al Hassani completed her twelve years of basic education in 2000, and graduated from SQU in 2005. Thereafter she attended the Sultan Qaboos University graduating with the Bachelor’s Degree in Science specialised in Chemistry. Immediately after completion of her degree she worked Al Sahwa Schools as a Science Lab Technician and a few years later applied for a teaching position. She has been involved in education for the past 11 years now. Balqees has recently been appointed as deputy Principal of Al Sahwa School.

    Balqees is also an active member in her community and has served on the board of a welfare organisation for the handicapped as well as social awareness programmes at school. Balqees believes that Quality Education is the basic right of every citizen in Oman. Education is the cornerstone of our kids today and generations to come. Globally education systems are developing rapidly and effective management is required to take education to greater heights. Greater demands are being placed on educational authorities. Her belief and strong faith have enabled her with the courage to take on challenges thus far and she firmly believes that she has the qualities to take charge to educate students to become leaders of the future.

    Adnan has 15+ years of experience in telecom industry that includes product management, project management, sales & marketing, vendor management & negotiations, network & capacity planning, carrier relations, and billing solutions integration. Adnan has worked with world's leading telecom companies that include Nortel Networks, Lucent Technologies, Rogers Cable, Bell Canada (Mobility), Mobily and Ooredoo (Nawras). 

    Adnan is Certified Product Manager (CPM) and Certified Product Marketing Manager (CPMM) from the Association of International Product Marketing & Management (AIPMM), USA. Presently Adnan is heading the B2B product management team within Ooredoo Oman.

He is also a member of the Oman American Business Center, an organization that boosts the commercial developments between Oman and USA.

    Lamiyah has a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Management from the Avans Hogeschool University of Applied Science in the Netherlands; She was also part of the challenge program at her university which was designed for high achieving students. She has considerable work experience in Human Resource, specifically in Oil & Gas industry. She is a self-starter and in her free time enjoys reading, travelling, cooking and doing voluntary work for charity. Lamiyah oversees the volunteering management department (both internally and externally) through recruitment and publicity promotions and campaigns, and helps in generating appropriate volunteering opportunities.

    Journey

    In April 2008, led by the founder Tariq Al Barwani, a multinational group of people living in Oman came together with the most admirable of intentions. Through their passion for serving the Sultanate, Knowledge Oman was born. 
     
    Its initial steps were formulated to facilitate the transfer of knowledge through an ICT platform. The mission however expanded in its service of both residents and citizens alike, quickly attracting a significant number of volunteers and partners from across the region.
     
    Within a year KO was recognized for its investment in people and recognized for its contribution, with many awards to follow over the coming years. Throughout its success in Oman and beyond, the organisation has associated with a plethora of public and private entities to create programs, launch initiatives, and promote projects that contribute to the mission of aiding Oman’s establishment as a knowledge-based society.
