Journey

Knowledge Oman has been passionately serving the country since 2008 with the spirit of innovating new initiatives and the diversity of projects.

Inspired by the vision of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to transform the Sultanate into a Knowledge Society and build a knowledge-based economy, KO was founded by Tariq Al Barwani in April 2008. A team of locals and expats living in Oman was formed to carry out this honorable role based on collective efforts of passionate volunteers. The initial steps were formulated with the objective of facilitating knowledge sharing and transfer among the people through ICT platform. This mission expanded in serving the English and Arabic community of the country, attracting volunteers and partners across the region.

Within the first year of operations, KO was recognized for its role and awarded, which in turn led in the coming years to a series of recognitions locally and beyond. Throughout the years, KO associated with a number of public and private entities in creating programs, launching initiatives, and promoting projects that contribute to the mission of a knowledge society. Knowledge Oman set its positioning uniquely driven by the community and for the community.

In October 2014, Tariq left the role of executive President appointing a successor within the team to demonstrate a platform of people, by people and for people.
